Im dritten Band der Reihe geht es um die verschiedenen Künstler, die, teilweise über viele Jahre, den Stil einzelner Meisterwerke beeinflusst und bestimmt haben, vorweg v.a. Mary Blair. Die Bilder sind unglaublich abwechslungsreich, sowohl in Technik als auch Farbgebung und Form. In diesem Band sind wesentlich mehr Filme vertreten als im 2. Band - er ist aber auch 280 Seiten (! Nicht 256!) dick. Und es geht wirklich von den Anfängen in den 20ern/30ern bis zu Rapunzel.Ich persönlich finde den Druck im übrigen überhaupt nicht "billig". Die Farben sind klar, es gibt keine Verschiebungen der verschiedenen Farbschichten und die Schrift ist völlig normal! Auch ansonsten ist der Band schön aufbereitet, beginnt mit einer kurzen Einführung (auf englisch) durch John Lasseter (Mitgründer von Pixar) und endet nach vielen wunderschönen und beeindruckenden Kunstwerken und CharakterdesÃgns mit ein paar Fotos von verschiedenen Künstlern alter und neuer Zeit, die auch im Buch vertreten sind.Ich kann dieses Buch daher jedem Animationsliebhaber nur wärmstens empfehlen!

Wundervolle Werke, leider ziemlich wenig bis garkein Text. Etwas mehr Hintergrund-Infos zu den Künstlern, der Entstehung, dem Material etc. wäre cool gewesen. Trotzdem eine grandiose Inspirations- bzw. Referenzquelle.
Of the three books from The Archive Series, this is my favourite. It covers design or the concept art for animated films.This 256-page hardcover is filled with beautiful character designs, background paintings and storyboards. There are Mary Blair's paintings, wonderful layouts from Hans Bacher, the Lilo and Stitch drawings from Chris Sanders, pastel colour scripts from Bolt animated films and more. The art here is way more colourful than the previous two volumes on Story and Animation.There is work dating back to the 1920s up to the latest animated films like The Princess and the Frog, and even Tangled. You will be able to see how the art has evolved with time, and the various Disney artists that have worked there and some are still working there now. There are so many styles to look at, from pencil animated characters to watercolour scenes to oil paintings.If you have other Disney art books, some pieces of work are actually repeated, but about one fifth of the them are published here for the first time. Even so, this is a wonderful collection to get. And if you have to get only one volume out of The Archive Series, I'll recommend this volume.This is a beautiful and inspiring collection.(There are more pictures of the book on my blog. es ist sehr schade, dass disney diesen kunstband billig in malaysien drucken ließ. die schrift ist gerastert und unscharf aufgrund des zu groben druckrasters. sehr schade :(
